HiTZ celebrates Play Cricket Week at Junction Oval

01 Sept 2026

This week, Australian cricket celebrates the start of Play Cricket Month, Cricket Australia's national cricket registration drive.

National Cricket Census data for the 2025/26 season recorded total registered participation of 669,642 nationally, with club cricket climbing to 348,221 participants. Victoria is leading that growth. Cricket Victoria confirmed record participation levels in 2025-26, with 158,877 club participants, including 51,580 juniors. Victoria also strengthened its position as Australia's leading state for women and girls' cricket, with 19,549 participants last season.

Play Cricket Week – between 31 August to 6 September – celebrates that same growth. As part of Play Cricket Month, it's a national initiative encouraging more kids into the game, and HiTZ is delighted to be involved with a free taster session at Junction Oval this Saturday.

HiTZ is at the forefront of removing barriers and hurdles involved with traditional cricket pathways. Club commitments, weather delays, expensive gear or long waitlists all stand between a kid and their first proper session.

This Saturday's session: just book a slot and play. It's cricket built around real life, not the other way around. That's the same thinking behind Play Cricket Week: get more kids playing, with fewer obstacles in the way.

The taster sessions are for 9-to-12 year players only. New and existing players and members are both welcome.

Members who bring along a new player will go into the draw to win 2 x double passes to a Melbourne Stars BBL|16 match at the MCG.

A shared batting session in a real net, with up to 4 players per hour. Kids get real reps against real bowling, the fundamentals that build confidence and skill.

If your kid is curious about cricket or already loves the game, this is the perfect way to get involved.
